- Intro:
Happy fall! I hope you’ve all been getting in the sunshine and beautiful weather while it lasts! We’ve got a big change of pace coming with 2+’ in the forecast for the mountains!
This week was our first week of both AXIS and fall dryland training. It’s been great to spend time with coaches and athletes, and get the ball rolling for the season. The more prep that goes in now, the stronger the kids will be for when the snow flies. I’ve been very impressed so far with how seriously the athletes are taking these training times. You know who you are. Thank you. If you can’t make it to training, please let the coaches for each session know! We look forward to seeing more of you as other fall sports wind down for the season.
IFSA + USASA schedules have just been released, now is a great time to start thinking about which events you’d like to attend this season. We’ll be organizing 1-1 goal setting meetings with all Progression + and Competition team families in the coming weeks. Please be on the lookout!
We’ve got limited spots still available for all programs. Please send anyone who may be interested my way! (collin@jhskiclub.org).
This newsletter will contain a re-cap of what's happened since our last newsletter and an update of events coming up this month.

Sydney Ricketts (IFSA 3* Coordinator): *this is repeated from last month because I couldn’t get the photo to work*
Syd loves Southern Hemisphere pow days!
“My name is Syd Ricketts and I am super excited to be joining the JHSC Freeride program this year! I have been involved in Freeride for over a decade between coaching and competing myself, and have spent the last 6 winters coaching with SBSEF. I grew up skiing in Little Cottonwood Canyon in Utah, and competed in both juniors and as an adult in IFSA in North and South America. Freeride is so special to me because of the amazing community and experiences shared with amazing people! Coaching brings me such joy and I am so excited to see everyone prosper and improve their skiing this winter! “ - Syd
We’re very excited to have Syd’s wealth of knowledge and experience joining our team for the upcoming season! Syd will be coaching our Competition and Progression + team athletes.
Frances Farrell (Shredders/Progression):
“Hi, I’m Frances!
I’m from Vail, Colorado where I spent my childhood immersed and playing in the mountains-hiking, camping, rafting, biking, and of course, skiing. After graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, I was ready to get back to the west and explore new terrain. Jackson answered the call. My first winter here was simply magical, so I decided to stay for another one! I’m thrilled for the opportunity to coach because I absolutely love to ski-a lot. Sharing skiing with other people who also love it creates timeless memories and builds a lasting community filled with fun, positive energy! I’m stoked for all of the adventures to come as I continue to uncover the immense amount of ski potential in this special zone of the Tetons!”
- Frances
Sam Cheek (Shredders/Progression):
“Hey, my name is Sam!
I was born and raised in beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado. I grew up skiing a little bit of everything including slope-style, moguls and ski racing. I moved up to the wet and heavy PNW to go to school at Western Washington University in Bellingham. I graduated with a Bachelors in Environmental Science and GIS, along with a love for Mt. Baker’s hot pow. I was the president of the Freeride club at WWU, allowing me to travel and compete in the BC Rockies.
In search of some lighter snow and pristine mountains, I eventually made my way to Jackson! I am so excited to be a part of this coaching staff and to inspire athletes about all the things there are to love about skiing. I hope to foster skills on skis but also support skills gained from being a part of a team. I can’t wait to meet all the parents and athletes and have an unforgettable season!”
