“Father of extreme skiing.' Notable first descents include the Grand Teton (1971), Middle Teton, Mt. Moran, and Mt. Owen. Introduced the “Certainty Training Method' at the Great American Ski School; later authored works on instruction. Inducted into the Intermountain Hall of Fame (2003) and the US National Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame (2008). Also known as a climbing guide, inventive instructor, and country-western bandleader.
