Freeski & Snowboard Progression Plus

New for the 25/26 Season:

- Snow King training moved to Tuesday/Thursday

The Progression Plus Team is designed for athletes serious about pursuing competition.  Progression Plus Team athletes will exhibit a high level of dedication to their personal riding and are expected to compete in both local and regional USASA/IFSA competition series. Training will build upon established fundamentals and focus on building proficiency in the disciplines of: IFSA Freeride, USASA Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Skier/Boardercross.   

USASA and IFSA certified Freeride Program Coaches will mentor and coach Progression Plus Team athletes during weekend and weekday training, and at local and regional competitions. The Progression Plus Team has a multi-tiered focus.  Athletes will push their abilities and demonstrate the ability to tackle steeps, natural jumps, cliff drops, and man-made features in all conditions during training and competitions.  Technical proficiencies and skill assessments will be a regular component of the training.  Additionally, we complete mid and end of season athlete evaluations based on the USSA's Developmental Matrix.   

*Fall Training is mandatory and summer on-snow training is highly recommended.*

Skill Development Focus

  • Mastery of body movement, balance & edge control.

  • Leadership in Terrain Park Smart Style

  • Proficiency in Large size terrain park/natural features

  • Expert skiing/riding in all conditions

  • Proficiency in advanced rotations (Switch 360s, 540s, etc.)

  • Intro to off axis/inverted aerials (flips, corks etc.)

  • Application of freestyle skills to natural terrain

  • Emphasis on competition goal-setting

  • Mental composure

  • Creating individual/signature style 

  • Developing tactical competition strategy

  • Competition Travel is expected of Progression Plus athletes.

Recommended for competitive athletes age 12-18

Training Schedule 

Winter Training Sessions:

December 6, 2025 - March 22, 2026 

Saturday - 8:30 am – 12:30 pm at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Sunday - 10:30 am – 2:30 pm at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Tuesday - 4:30-6:30 pm at Snow King

Thursday - 4:30-6:30pm at Snow King 

No Training Dec. 25th, Christmas Day 

Training moved to SK December 28 - Dec 29 (Christmas Holiday Blackout)

- Training @ Snow King January 18 - 19 (Martin Luther King Holiday Blackout) 

- Training @ Snow King February 15 - 16 (President's Day Holiday Blackout)

 

Dryland Training:

Our focus will be on snow sports related strength, cardio, and flexibility. Please be prepared for varied weather conditions.  Bring athletic shoes, hat, gloves, extra clothing layers, water bottle, and healthy snacks.  No transportation provided.

  • 4:30-6pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays (Sept. 30 - Nov. 22)
  • Athletic Fields next to skatepark.

Ski Passes

Athletes need a Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Season Bypass and a Snow King Mountain Season Pass. Athlete season pass is not included in program fees and must be purchased directly through our mountain resort partners. Please purchase early for best pricing.

Memberships

  • IFSA needed for Big Mountain Events
  • USASA needed for Slopestyle, Skier/Boarder X, Halfpipe, Rail Jam

Competition Expenses

  • Local events - estimate $20  - $150 per event
  • Regional events - estimate $500 - $3,000 per season dependent on number of events

Equipment Recommendations 

Please reach out to Freeride staff with any gear questions. 

Participants are required to have the following:

  • *Helmets are REQUIRED for all training*
  • Snowboard, boots, bindings (Snowboard Program).
    • We recommend all snowboards have traditional camber.
    • Mid to high performance gear recommended.
  • Skis, boots, and poles (Freeski Program).
    • We recommend all athetes have 2 pairs of skis (1 for Park 1 for all mountain/freeride)
    • High performance gear recommended.
    • 12 DIN binding or higher, no demo plates. 
  • Water-resistant snow pants and jacket.
  • Warm wool or synthetic base and mid layers.
  • Goggles.
    • lens options for low light & high visibility days.  
  • Backpack with ski/snowboard carry. 
  • Protective gear:
    • Spine protection - Required for all IFSA competitions.
    • Avalanche transceiver - Required at some IFSA competitions.

Academic Support and Early Release Program 

There is no early release schedule required for Progression Plus Team athletes.

Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club staff works closely with the Jackson Hole High School, the JH Middle School, the JH Community School, and the Journeys School to further develop the Early-Release Program for each academic year and summer programs. The Club and local schools are highly motivated to create educational program options for students that enable them to maintain a rigorous academic schedule while supporting athletic growth and development.  Learn more
