Freeski & Snowboard COMP TEAM - SLOPE

For ages 13-18

New for the 26/27 Season:

  • 5 hour weekend training blocks

  • We're offering SLOPE and FREERIDE specific COMP TEAMs

  • Focused training will be separate from REC TEAM

  • Weekly strength training offered during practice at SK

The COMP TEAM - SLOPE is designed for athletes serious about the disciplines of Slopestyle and Railjam.  COMP TEAM athletes will exhibit a high level of dedication to their personal riding and are expected to compete in a Nationals qualification USASA or FIS schedule. The COMP TEAM emphasizes JHSC's core values of SPORTSMANSHIP and COMPETITION. 

Training will focus on building mastery in the Terrain Park disciplines of: Slopestyle and Railjam.

USASA + USSA certified Freeride Program Coaches will mentor and coach COMP TEAM  athletes during weekly training, and during competition.  All training is designed around USSA's Long Term Athlete Development Matrix.  

**Fall Training is mandatory and summer on-snow training is highly recommended.**

Skill Development Focus:

 

  • Mastery of body movement, balance & edge control.

  • Leadership in Terrain Park Smart Style

  • Proficiency in large size terrain park/natural features

  • Expert skiing/riding in all conditions

  • Proficiency in advanced rotations (Switch spins over 720, 1080s, etc.)

  • Proficiency in off axis/inverted aerials (flips, corks etc.)

  • Application of freestyle skills to natural terrain

  • Emphasis on competition goal-setting

  • Mental composure

  • Creating individual/signature style 

  • Building marketable athlete image

  • Developing tactical competition strategy

Winter Training Sessions:

December 5, 2026 - March 14, 2027

**Additional training provided for athletes who qualify for championship events**

Saturday - 8:30 am – 1:30 pm at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Sunday - 8:30 am – 1:30 pm at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Tuesday - 4:30-7:30 pm at Snow King

Wednesday: 1:00 - 4:00pm at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Thursday - 4:30-7:30pm at Snow King 

No Training: Dec. 24-25

No Training: Dec. 31

JHSC Freeride Program Dryland Training:  Our focus will be on strength, cardio, and flexibility as they relate to snowsports. Please be prepared for varied weather conditions. We will be outside for the duration of most training. Bring athletic shoes, hats, gloves, extra clothing layers, water bottle, and healthy snacks.  No transportation provided.

An installment plan of equal payments from the date of registration through December is available when you register.

Ski Passes:

Athletes need a Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Season Grandpass and a Snow King Mountain Season Pass. Athlete season pass is not included in program fees and must be purchased directly through our mountain resort partners. Please purchase early for best pricing.

 

Memberships:

  • USASA needed for Slopestyle, Skier/Boarder X, Halfpipe, Rail Jam
  • FIS needed for Futures tour

     

Competition Expenses:

  • Est. $2500 - $3500 per season

Please reach out to Freeride coaching staff with any gear questions. 

Participants are required to have the following:

  • *Helmets are REQUIRED for all training*
  • Snowboard, boots, bindings (Snowboard Program)
    • We recommend all athletes have 3 snowboards (2x park, 1x all mountain)
    • We recommend all snowboards have traditional camber
    • Mid to high performance gear recommended
  • Skis, boots, and poles (Freeski Program)
    • We recommend all athletes have 3 pairs of skis (2x park skis, 1x all mountain)
    • High performance gear recommended
    • 12 DIN binding or higher, no demo plates
  • Water-resistant snow pants and jacket
  • Warm wool or synthetic base and mid layers
  • Goggles
    • lens options for low light & high visibility days
  • Backpack with ski/snowboard carry
  • Protective gear:
    • Spine protection - Optional but recommended 
    • Mouth guard (JHSC has some!)

Academic Support and Early Release Program

Early release required on Wednesday at 12:00 from 12/9 - 3/10.

Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club staff works closely with the Jackson Hole High School, the JH Middle School, the JH Community School, and the Journeys School to further develop the Early-Release Program for each academic year and summer programs. The Club and local schools are highly motivated to create educational program options for students that enable them to maintain a rigorous academic schedule while supporting athletic growth and development.  Learn more
